This clatterbait has a chinchilla double tail(two strips glued and tied together around a 7/0 Mustad trailer hook) with red marabou feather tip. Its 12 inchs long and has two 7/0 Mustad heavy wire duratin hooks. The hook shanks are powder painted for additional corosion protection. Every jig or clatterbait I make has the hook shank painted.

The body has two seperate ties of grey bucktail in front of a red rabbit wrap along the hook shank. The flashabou tinsels I use are the thick saltwater variety. I use red, silver holographic, and a silver/ black / clear / light green mix ,on the back of the lure. The white thread on the throat is complimented by a thin red band over the white.

Painting the(heated) head is rather complicated and time consuming, but the results are worth it. Using grey and white powder paint,two different glitters, and clear coating, I use a Jackson Pollock throwing technique(he used brushs full of paint, I use spoons and knife blades.) to come up with a unique, one of a kind, never to be duplicated paint job. One might even call art.

All powder paints I've looked at had baking instructions that recommended 15 to 25 minutes at 300 degrees. If you follow these instructions you will get a finish that will chip just like liquid paints do. I bake all my jigs or Clatterbaits at 400 degrees for a minimum of one and one half hours. Sometimes they get two hrs. or more. The result is a head that will dent,leaving the paint intact rather than chipping. I give your clatterbait the best paint job you will ever find. Until someone copies my technique this is the only place to obtain the most artistic and durable finish.
